Editorial standards

We start with a decision a family might actually face. Each guide separates the immediate action from what can wait and points readers to the organization that can help.

Start with a reader’s decision

We write for someone who may already be under pressure. Immediate actions come first. Our examples teach recognition; they are not live messages, official alerts or a service for handling individual incidents.

Bylines and examples

The journal uses named editorial pen names with consistent subject areas. Profiles describe the scope of each byline; they do not claim professional qualifications or employment histories.

First-person commentary explains an editorial choice or recommended approach. A hypothetical scenario is not presented as a personal test, a client story or a reported incident. When we use a public case, we identify its source.

Sources and scope

We link to primary sources wherever practical. Conditions differ between homes, devices and countries. Follow an operator’s current instructions when details change, and treat specific examples as illustrations.

Editorial independence and images

The guide library does not sell placements or include paid product links. We identify image sources separately, and we do not present illustrative images as evidence of a personal test.
